Information about travelling with children

Children up to and including 12 years of age must always be accompanied by a person 18 years of age or older who will bear responsibility for the child throughout the entire trip. It is implied that the child and the escort will be travelling together on the same flight and the same travel class.

Children aged 0 to 2 years may only be escorted by their legal guardian when flying.

1. Unaccompanied Minors
Children aged 6 to 12 years old: may travel alone under our Unaccompanied Minor service. This service is mandatory for children in this age group who are travelling alone, and by using it you can feel comfortable letting your child travel alone. We should point out that your child may be denied boarding if the Unaccompanied Minor service has not been reserved. Tickets for the child and the Unaccompanied Minor service can only be booked by calling our reservations department and must be requested at least 48 hours before departure.

You will need to give the name, address and telephone number of the person who will be accompanying the child to the departure airport, and of the person who will be picking the child upon arrival. In both cases – departure and arrival – the accompanying adult will be required to produce proof of identity. Unaccompanied children are boarded first on the plane and will be supervised by our Ground Staff until handed over to the responsible designated party at the destination airport. Bookings for children travelling alone cannot be made on Hellenic Imperial Airways’ website.

Please contact us or your travel agent for Hellenic Imperial Airways’ service charges for children traveling alone.
2. Travelling With Infants
Any person under two years is an infant.

Please note that newborn infants can travel only after 7 full days have passed since their birth and infants must have certification from an obstetrician permitting them to travel.

A child younger than two years of age can travel sitting on your lap. Although an adult may accompany more than one baby, only one baby can sit on his/her lap. Any other baby will require a seat of its own. Any child who has reached the age of two by the return travel date must have a reserved seat.

For the safety of our youngest passengers, certain rules apply to infants travelling with Hellenic Imperial Airways.

An infant held in the lap of an adult passenger throughout the flight should be restrained where possible, but adult seat belts must not be fastened around both adult and infant. Seat belt extensions carried on board all Hellenic Imperial Airways aircraft should be used instead.

Baggage, buggies and child seats

For a child younger than two years of age who will be travelling on your lap, you are entitled to:
  • bring one piece of hand baggage weighing no more than 10 kg (22 lbs) and measuring no larger than 55 x 35 x 25 cm
  • bring a small, completely collapsible baby stroller/pram. If the baby stroller will not fit under the seat or in the overhead baggage compartment, it can be checked into the hold at no extra charge
  • check one piece of baggage weighing no more than 10 kg into the hold

If a seat has been reserved for your child, you may bring your own car/child seat aboard on the condition that it fits between the armrests of the aircraft seat (43 cm/17 inches). Only child seats that display no defects and that carry a visible seal of approval awarded by the European Union or an official government agency may be taken aboard.
