Last Chinese evacuees from Libya flown in by Hellenic Imperial Airways

The last batch of Chinese nationals evacuated from riot-torn Libya returned to China last Saturday 5 March 2011, according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

The Chinese government these days had continued sending military and chartered planes, of which two Hellenic Imperial Airways B747 Jumbo aircraft, to bring back those evacuees temporarily staying at other nations.

Over 3500 Chinese had been evacuated to Heraklion, Crete from which they were further flown back to China on Hellenic Imperial Airways aircraft.

When the last flight to Beijing Capital International Airport arrived on Saturday morning, carrying the last 435 repatriated Chinese workers who had fled Libya, accompanied by 13 Chinese government officials, a red carpet ceremony was conducted at the tarmac with the participation of a music-band.

The 13 Chinese government officials were part of a total 19-member working group, who had left for Libya on Feb. 23 and successfully helped over 30,000 Chinese nationals to evacuate from the country.

The local authorities headed by the Chinese Vice-Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Song Tao expressed gratitude to Greece and its people on behalf of his country for the excellent work and support to his people; furthermore he extended his gratitude and regards to Hellenic imperial Airways, Captain Koukopoulos and the aircrew in person.
"We really appreciate the convenience and support offered by the government and the people of Greece and other nations in our evacuation operation," Song said.

Hellenic Imperial Airways was impressed by the perfectly organised evacuation and the cooperation it received of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Athens, which also expressed its gratitude via the Letter of Appreciation below, and continues to display its social sensitivity towards people in need and is also preparing their scheduled network servicing several long-, medium- and short-haul destinations beginning June 2011 with flights to the US and Canada.

Hellenic Imperial Airways had another challenging year.
2010 turned out to be a year of changes within the company as well as a year of great plans to start scheduled operations to several destinations world wide, while overcoming the economical crisis in Europe.

Being nominated “Best European Charter Airline 2010” by ITM, Hellenic Imperial Airways performed flights for several major airlines.
At the beginning of 2010 Hellenic Imperial Airways operated humanitarian flights to Haiti for both the Greek Government as well as for the Libyan Government transporting enormous amounts of relief aid.

The Greek Foreign Ministry sent a team of 25 healthcare professionals, nurses, rescuers as well as Hellenic Aid officials and rescue workers, along with pharmaceutical supplies on board a direct flight provided by Hellenic Imperial Airways on one of our Boeing 747's.

The company took on 50 % of the expenses as part of their social sensitivity programme to provide aid to the people of Haiti who were left destitute by the devastating earthquake.

During the FIFA World Cup 2010 in Johannesburg (South Africa), Hellenic Imperial Airways, being the Official Carrier of the Greek National Football Team, transported not only the Greek National Football Team to their Durban destination, but also many Greek football supporters as part of their scheduled flights which they performed after having been appointed the Designated Carrier for South Africa by the Greek Civil Aviation Authority.
Also Dutch and Spanish sports fans enjoyed the Greek hospitality Hellenic Imperial Airways provides, on their way to support their countries during the World Cup final.

TUI (Germany), Libyan Airlines (Libya), Blue Panorama Airlines (Italy), Alwafeer (KSA) and Max Air (Nigeria) were amongst the air carriers that trusted Hellenic Imperial Airways’ to operate on their behalf.

Hellenic Imperial Airways close to the people of Haiti

Hellenic Imperial Airways answered the call for help to realize the humanitarian flight for the relief aid to the people of Haiti.

Badly struck by the devastating earthquake the people of Haiti’s request for help didn’t stay unanswered. Just like many other governments, the Greek Government responded immediately. When looking for a plane with the highest capacity to be able to transfer the enormous amount of relief aid they had gathered, there was only one choice in the Greek market; Hellenic Imperial Airways’ Jumbo Boeing 747’s.

Hellenic Imperial Airways answered the call for help instantly.

The Greek Foreign Ministry sent a team of 25 healthcare professionals, nurses, rescuers as well as Hellenic Aid officials and rescue workers, along with pharmaceutical supplies on board a direct flight provided by air carrier Hellenic Imperial Airways on one of their Boeing 747's.

The company took on 50 % of the expenses as part of their social sensitivity programme to provide aid to the people of Haiti who were left destitute by the 7,0 Richter earthquake. And not only did they offer an amount to cover the expenses of the flight, but the whole mission had a voluntary character. All crew involved, who over came their strength flying for many hours, providing service and fulfilling all requests made by their passengers, flew on a strictly voluntary base.
This humanitarian mission was a real team effort which filled all its members with an overwhelming feeling of gratitude; being able to contribute to the relief of people in need.

Hellenic 2010 Charter Award

To: Hellenic Imperial Airways
From: Awards Committee
Issue Date: 29th March 2010
Award Title: ‘Best European Charter Airline 2010’
ITM Liaison: Mr. Denis Raftis, Awards Liaison Officer

Birmingham 26th March 2010 - The International Air Transport Association (IATA) this month released the latest figures for scheduled air traffic, revealing continued improvement in the health of the aviation industry. Based on comparable data from 2009, passenger demand in January this year rose by 6.4 percent, and a 1.2 percent increase in passenger capacity pushed load factors up to 75.9 percent from 72.2 percent last year. This is certainly good news and brings hope for 2010. However, the industry has lost several years of growth, current figures are still far below the peak of previous years and airlines are under pressure to increase operational efficiency at the same time as reducing environmental impact and keeping prices at reasonable levels for customers.

These are significant challenges, and not all airlines are coping well. In a bid to offer the best advice to its members and associates, the Institute of Transport Management (ITM) undertook an extensive investigation over the past few months into the current services of charter airlines, with a view to recognising the efforts of those who are outperforming their peers. As a result of this research, the Institute is today delighted to announce that the winner of the ‘Best European Charter Airline 2010’ Award is Hellenic Imperial Airways.

Hellenic Imperial Airways was incorporated in May 2006 with headquarters in Athens and has since established itself in the travel market of the Mediterranean and Middle East as well as further afield. The airline currently employs a 300-strong workforce of highly trained flight crew, cabin crew, engineers, mechanics and support staff, all of whom have been drilled in the key principles of Hellenic’s business philosophy: safety first, quality always, and exceptional customer service throughout. The company has ambitious plans to expand its fleet and activities in 2010, introducing new 737 Classics and scheduled flights to domestic and international destinations by the end of May.

Announcing the Award to Hellenic Imperial Airways, Director of Research Ms. Bridget Moncrieff said: “The Institute recognises the achievements of companies both large and small, those which are long-established global brands and those which are just starting to make a name for themselves. Indeed, we are keen to encourage young businesses with the right attitude; too often the larger brands are complacent about their offerings to the consumer, or the marshalling of their resources – especially as regards how their operations fit the fluctuating economic environment. Hellenic Imperial Airways occupies the smaller end of the market at present, having been founded just 4 years ago. However, this is an airline with big ideas and hugely experienced staff. Already, it has become the service provider of choice in the Mediterranean region, and with the roll out of the expansion plans later this year its influence is set to grow.”

“In light of Hellenic’s achievements over the last few years, and the vision of its management team, the Institute is pleased to accredit the company as ‘Best European Charter Airline 2010’. This comes as a result of detailed investigations by the ITM research team, including canvassing of members and industry contacts, and the careful deliberation of the Awards Committee. I offer my congratulations to all at Hellenic Imperial Airways on this triumph and hope that it spurs the company on to further success in 2010.”
