2. General Info

Canada is the worlds’ second largest country in the world and its border with the United States is the longest in the world. Canada also has the longest coastline at 202,080 kilometers. The country is a federation comprised of ten provinces and three territories.
The vastness of Canada results in a variety of landscapes and climates. North, east and west are dense forests, the Arctic region, towards the North Pole, is an ice desert where only few people live. Because of its area, Canada is one of the countries with the most lakes, most of which can be found in the Great Lakes district.

Most of Canada is English-speaking except for the province of Quebec (eastern-central area) where the official language is French and whose capital city is Quebec City and one of the most important urban centres is Montreal.
3. City Guide

What to do, what to see?

For those who want to get a feel for the city as it has been throughout the years, head to Old Montreal and its exceptional collection of old buildings, or take a walk on the promenade in the Old Port.

Montreal is a green city, and the many parks will enchant you: Mont Royal offers kilometers of jogging and skiing tracks as well as an amazing view of the city and the St Lawrence River. You can also visit the Botanical gardens with its impressive collection of flora.

The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, which features a large collection of decorative and ethnographic objects, 19th-century paintings, and Canadian paintings, prints and drawings as well as the Museum of Contemporary Art which gathers 7000 works produced from 1940 onwards from 1500 different artists will ravish amateurs of the arts. The Canadian Center for Architecture is also worth a visit if not for the exhibitions, at least for the beauty of the building.

Where to eat?
Montreal is known as one of the places where any kind of cuisine can be found, whether you want Tibetan or Peruvian food, you will certainly find a place that serves some. The famous Boulevard St Laurent boasts restaurants of all kinds.

Mile End is a vibrant and modern district bustling with cafés and restaurants where you’ll mingle with the people of the city and get a true taste of Montreal. For sophisticated tastes, head to Rue Saint Denis where you’ll find the best of upscale dining.

During harsh winters, you can visit what is called Underground City, a city under the city, where you can access the metro as well as streets full of shops and restaurants away from the freezing cold.

Where to shop?
If you want to outdoor shop that is off the beaten path, visit the public outdoor Jean-Talon Market. Although not a tourist destination, it’s a great place to soak up the atmosphere of a Montreal market.

Thinking of re-doing your interiors? You’ll probably find marvels and treasures in one of the many antique shops of Rue Notre-Dame.

For upscale shopping, head to the sophisticated shops of Rue Sherbrooke, and treat yourself to a high-end shopping experience.
